West Hartford, Conn. - Brian Hunter went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI, while also going three and a third innings on the mound to earn the save in leading Hartford to a 6-4 win over UAlbany in America East Conference baseball action on Sunday afternoon. The loss, which concluded a three-game series between the two teams, dropped UAlbany to 8-20-1 on the season, with a 2-1 league record.
UAlbany scored first, plating one run in the first inning, but Hartford responded and scored twice in the bottom of the second to take the one-run lead. After the Great Danes tied the game with a single run in the fourth, the Hawks scored twice in the bottom of the frame, and again in the fifth to hold a 6-2 lead. The Great Danes attempted to battle back, scoring runs in the sixth and eighth, but could not complete the comeback to seal up the three-game sweep.
Jeff Welsh led the UAlbany offense, going 2-for-2 with a home run and a double. Nolan Gaige also recorded a hit and scored a run, while Pete DiResta and Craig Lepre accounted for the Great Danes' other hits. Starter Kasceim Graham went five and a third innings on the mound, scattering six hits and striking out four in the loss. Greg Lutton also pitched two and two thirds innings in relief, without allowing a run and striking out two.
UAlbany (8-20-1) will return to action on Tuesday, visiting Marist in non-conference action.
