Great Danes Take A Pair From Binghamton in America East Conference Play at Varsity Field

Albany, N.Y. - Pete DiResta recorded a two-RBI single up the middle to lead UAlbany to a 4-3 win over Binghamton in the first game of an America East Conference doubleheader on Saturday, April 16 at Varsity Field. The Great Danes also took the nightcap, 5-3.
Binghamton scored in the top of the first on an RBI groundout by Corey Taylor. The Bearcats then scored two runs in the sixth to build a 3-0 lead. First baseman Dave Ciocchi drove in a run with a single to right center. Ciocchi then scored off a wild throw to put the Bearcats ahead.
UAlbany plated two runs in each of the last two innings to complete the comeback. Greg Muller doubled to left field to score Kyle Crean. Nolan Gaige then crossed home plate off Josh Nethaway's single through the right side. With bases loaded, Pete DiResta, who finished the game with two hits, singled up the middle to score the winning runs to lead his team to a comeback victory.
Senior right-hander Dave Kubiak tossed the complete-game win. Kubiak scattered five hits and issued no walks, while striking out six. Binghamton's James Giulietti took the loss on the mound after five innings of work, allowing five hits, while striking out four.
In the nightcap, UAlbany struck first, as Muller and DiResta came across on D.J. Hoagboon's single up the middle. Binghamton battled back scoring three in the top of the seventh, led by Ciocchi's triple to right center. The Bearcats would add another run off of a groundout by Taylor. The Great Danes came back to score three over the next two innings to complete the doubleheader sweep. In the bottom of the seventh, Rob Cervini singled to right center, crossing Hoagboon. UAlbany would add runs in the bottom of the eighth as Nethaway lifted a sacrifice fly to score Muller. Four consecutive walks by Bearcat pitchers would prove to be the final tally as DiResta crossed home plate.
Relief pitcher Greg Lutton scattered three hits and struck out two in three innings of action. Starter Kasceim Graham was credited with the win and allowed three hits and had three strikeouts over six innings. Binghamton's Lee Sosa took the loss on the mound.
UAlbany (12-16, AE 5-0) and Binghamton (11-17, AE 3-2) will complete the four-game series on Sunday with a doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m.
