Albany, N.Y. - Right fielder Mike McCann was one of three players to hit home runs for Manhattan, as the Jaspers defeated UAlbany, 17-6, in non-conference baseball action on Wednesday afternoon at Varsity Field.

               The two teams played to a 1-1 tie through four innings before Manhattan scored four runs in the fifth to take a 5-1 lead. Mark Onorati doubled down the left field line and was driven in on an RBI single by McCan, After McCann stole second, he came home on a single by Austin Sheffield, who was later sent across the plate by the Jaspers' first home run of the game, a shot out to right center by Anthony Armenio.

               UAlbany responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning. First baseman Pete Eichner drew a walk and scored on a fielder's choice. Brian Gauthier scored the Great Danes' second run of the frame, coming home on a bases-loaded wild pitch. However, Manhattan tacked on two additional runs in the sixth before exploding for seven runs in the seventh inning. The Jaspers produced four hits in the frame, including back-to-back home runs with a two-run shot from Chad Salem followed by a solo blast by McCann.

               The Great Danes attempted to mount a comeback in the eighth, but could only manage two runs. Shortstop Kyle Crean recorded a lead-off double and came home on an RBI single up the middle by Brendan Rowland. Manhattan pitcher Zac Goyer loaded the bases dealt a bases-loaded hit by pitch to Ralph Rizzo, sending Rowland home.

               Manhattan tacked on three final runs in the ninth, behind a McCann RBI-single and a double by Sheffield that scored McCann and Giancarlo Santillo. McCann and Sheffield were two of five Jasper batters who finished with multiple hits while the pair, along with Salem, drove in three runs each.

               Rowland recorded two hits for the Great Danes and scored three runs. UAlbany's Christian Garcia took the loss on the mound after a five-inning performance. The freshman right hander struck out two while issuing just one walk. Mike Gonzalez earned the win for Manhattan (21-13), striking out three while allowing just one hit in two innings of work.

               UAlbany (6-28) will return to action over the weekend, visiting UMBC in America East Conference action. The teams will play doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday, starting at noon.
